A book with photos, descriptions and locations of everything you own will come in handy if your home ever suffers from a fire or robbery.

Simpson recommends organizing your favorite room first because once you realize the value of getting organized, you’re more likely to make a commitment to stay that way. That might be the kitchen if you cook or entertain often; the garage if you like to tinker with cars or do-it-yourself projects; or the home office if you work from home.
